The Athena Film Festival Partners with the Black List.

The Athena Film Festival (AFF) announced today that they will be partnering with The Black List to present the inaugural Athena Film Festival Black List Mini-Lab. This unique Mini-Lab will be offered as part of the 2016 program and is open to female writers with scripts focusing on women and leadership. This will be the sixth year that the Mini- Lab will be held. It will take place at Barnard College at February 18-21, 2016.

The Black List is a known database where writers submit their screenplays for filmmakers and producers. The Mini-Lab consists of an intensive peer workshop and one-on-one mentoring sessions with professional screenwriters. Previous Mini-Lab mentors have included Beau Willimon (House of Cards, The Ides of March), Leslye Headland (Sleeping with Other People, Bachelorette), Kiwi Smith (Legally Blonde), Jessica Bendinger (Bring It On), and many more. The Mini- Lab is only open to women writers and there will be ten screenwriters picked based on the strength of their scripts.

“The Athena Film Festival strives to give voice to the incredible female talent in the entertainment world.” said Kathryn Kolbert co-founder of the Athena Film Festival. The Black List has grossed almost $25 billion in the box office worldwide since its debut in 2005. Black list movies have won 43 Academy Awards, including three of the last seven Best Picture Oscars and eight of the last 16 Best Screenplay Oscars.
