Suede Jury Lights A Fire Under NYC Emcees With ‘Soul Sophisticate’

Suede Jury’s style behind a mic is instantly memorable.

Closing my eyes with Soul Sophisticate bumping through my headphones I felt like I was strolling through Harlem on a Friday night. Sharply dressed couples weaving by while the smell of black and milds hug my sinuses, I vibe to jazz music leaking out a night club.

Suede’s project has this fantastic blend of spices drawn from the different types of NYC emcees. The pro-black, introspective, and Hip Hop reflecting content spread across the LP is funneled through a Guru like delivery. His voice is rather monotone but gripping, in the way that Evidence or Roc Marciano hold your attention.

The production is also really well put together, the majority of which is done by Suede Jury himself. There’s a strong variety of style yet all the beats sound natural and he flows comfortable across the entire LP.

The record feels like a conscious throwback, that is reminiscing to draw on the successes of the past rather than to escape. Suede’s style is certainly not outdated and his lyricism is incredibly heavy.

I love tracks like “Still feat. Duv” where the light piano riff, played by Suede, contrasts so organically with his rugged delivery. If you want to take an immersive trip into the mind of a hungry emcee, definitely cop Soul Sophisticate.
