Honne Performs At The Standard East Village

As part of their Annie O Music Series, The Standard Hotel East Village hosted British soul-electronic duo Honne.

The Annie O Music Series at The Standard is an ongoing project curated by Annie Ohayon. The performance took place on May 12 at the penthouse suite of the The Standard, where concert-goers were able to enjoy stunning views of the city that few are ever privy to. The scene only added to the always smooth sounds from the two friends. The crowd gathered around the bar, around the artists, and on the balcony, despite the chilly air on the 21 st floor. Honne played some of their most well-known songs, including “3am” and “Gone Are The Days”.

“Gone Are The Days” was probably one of their more upbeat tracks, the others being much more suave, easygoing, and romantic. Surrounded by the lights of downtown Manhattan, the music felt nostalgic. The mood of the performance felt utterly appropriate for a date. The pair’s vocals, especially during harmonies like the ones in “No Place Like Home”, are effortless and easy- going. This, coupled with their lyrics, evokes a sense of longing, while still remaining light hearted. Honne’s synthesis of pop, electronic, soul and R&B sounds makes the duo stand out for the seemingly facile way they write and compose their songs.

Honne’s performance in New York marked their last concert in the US. Currently, they are touring in Europe.
