Get to know upcoming Chicago rapper Sprado
Born and raised in Chicago, Sprado is one of the city’s most promising young rappers. With collaborations and cosigns from some of the industry’s best artists like Jeremih and most recently, NLE Choppa on his newest single, “Magic” Sprado is starting to starting to gain recognition.
Sprado started gaining traction last year after dropping his Bases Loaded EP, but has been making music seriously for the past 5 years. With musical influences from his family, Sprado followed in his fathers footsteps by pursuing music. His father knew he was serious about music when he started carrying a notebook to write his rhymes in. Throughout his journey he formed a bond with Jeremih which helped open doors for him as well as create collaborations such as their single, “American Dream.” In addition to having Sprado open up for him during concerts and plugging him with producers, Jeremih has continuously supported Sprado’s career. Sprado caught up with us today to talk about his upcoming music video for “Magic” featuring NLE Choppa, his first time rapping and writing and what it was like growing up with a father who worked in music. The Knockturnal: Did you grow up in a musical family?
Sprado: Yeah I grew up in a musical family. My pops used to manage and produce. I used to see him work a lot with music and it kind of influenced me to take my journey with music.
The Knockturnal: When did you decide to take music seriously and was your father supportive of you following ins footsteps?
Sprado: As soon as he found out music was passion of mine, he was all for it. He was like, ‘just take it seriously and do it your way’ and ever since then I’ve been doing music.
The Knockturnal: When did you write your first rap or freestyle for the first time?
Sprado: The first rap I did, I had a little notebook and I used to write in it, different songs with different beats, but I never put them out, but those are the songs that let my pops know I could do music. I was 20 or 21 when I put out my first record.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about your musical influences from Chicago and beyond?
Sprado:I got a lot of influences from Chicago and all over the world. From Chicago, Obviously Kanye West. I listen to everybody around the city.
The Knockturnal: Who are some of the most influential artists to come out of artists to come out of Chicago in the past 10 years?
Sprado: I think it’s gonna be me.
The Knockturnal: What are you currently working on?
Sprado: I’ve got a few songs done, but right now I’m working on these music videos.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about your current releases?
Sprado: “Magic” featuring NLE Choppa is out right now, it’s out on all social platforms.
The Knockturnal: What was it like working with Choppa on the video?
Sprado: It was cool, it was lit we were vibing. It should be a raw video, dropping soon so look out for it.
