Shooting Suspect at Texas Wal-Mart Killed by Police

A suspect has been shot and killed after police officers responded to a reported shooting inside an Amarillo, Texas Wal-Mart late Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the scene after reports late Tuesday morning said that there was an armed suspect inside the store who was possibly holding hostages.

The city of Amarillo released a statement to inform the public that emergency officials were on the scene of an “active shooter incident.” There has been no immediate report of injuries. At the time police entered the store, there was no ongoing shooting. Police have urged residents to avoid the area. Some nearby streets were closed as a precaution, including a ramp to Interstate 27.

The Amarillo Police Department released a statement after the situation was neutralized, assuring the public that the hostages inside the store were safe; they described the occurrence as a “workplace violence event.” No details have yet been provided about the suspect or the suspect’s motivations for the incident.
