Sharaun B Returns to Chicago for the 96th Bud Billiken Parade

Sharaun B: From GRAMMY Spotlight to Chicago Legacy at the Bud Billiken Parade

If you watched the 2024 GRAMMYs, then you’ve already seen Sharaun B  the poised model center stage, presenting the award between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift during one of the most iconic and unexpected moments in recent award show history. Beyoncé’s surprise, Taylor’s nod of respect, and Sharaun’s steady, elegant presence turned that moment into an image etched in pop culture history.

But that wasn’t the beginning  and it’s far from the end.

A Chicago Queen Returns for a Cultural Legacy

This weekend, Sharaun B returns to her hometown of Chicago to help lead one of the most cherished cultural celebrations in the nation  the 96th Annual Bud Billiken Parade, the largest and longest-running African American parade in the United States.

Held every August since 1929, the Bud Billiken Parade was created by Robert S. Abbott, the founder of The Chicago Defender, to celebrate Black youth and highlight the importance of education and community pride. The name “Bud Billiken” came from a mythical guardian of children, later becoming a symbol of hope and Black achievement.

Today, the parade continues that tradition combining music, dance, pageantry, community organizations, and Chicago pride into one powerful day on the South Side.

From Award Shows to Community Impact

Sharaun’s impact goes beyond the camera. Recently named one of 2025’s Most Influential Figures, her presence at both national moments like the GRAMMYs and grassroots institutions like Bud Billiken reflects a balance of visibility and authenticity. Whether she’s on a global stage or in her own city, she shows up fully and intentionally.

A Personal Note

I met Sharaun at a Desolas event in SoHo, New York. In person, she’s everything you’d hope: grounded, present, and real. I introduced myself as an artist and writer and shared the unreleased audio of my song “Supherhero” with her. She took the time to respond with thoughtful feedback a rare and appreciated gesture in this industry. Those small moments of integrity and connection are what truly set her apart.

If You’re in Chicago This Weekend…

Don’t miss it. The Bud Billiken Parade takes place Saturday, August 9, 2025, and it’s a celebration you want to be part of. From high-stepping bands to legendary dancers, floats, and community leaders, the energy is unmatched and Sharaun B will be at the center of it all, repping Chicago with love and excellence.
