Sechs Element opened fashion week with a sustainable runway show featuring international up-and-coming designers who used recycled resources to create phenomenal looks.
The Chinese company assists and partners with aspiring designers to create sustainable clothing lines in the fashion industry, and to help raise awareness towards the positive use of eco-friendly products in clothing.
This season Sechs Elements featured 6 designers: Alice Potts, Apoorva Gupta, Cen Si, Chenhui Zhang, Peiyang Zou, and Jiaren Du.
Alice Potts previewed designs using different materials that were cut out into squares. She wanted to share the idea “that one base of a garment can turn into a multiple of items such as jackets, dresses, trouser or handbags from the same number of squares.” She created a beautiful mixed blue and pink jacket by layering squares, that gave it added textures and flowy volume.
At first glance, you can see how each piece in Sechs Elemts was created and you can easily spot the materials used to create them, all polished to perfection.
Apoorva Gupta uses versatile silhouettes in her pieces and clumps different pieces of waste to make gorgeous outfits and dresses. “I believe that zero waste garments increase the value of the garment making it longer lasting and reducing the shopping frequency which further reduces the waste associated with the production,” says Gupta.
Cen Si, who is a pianist and composer, focused on print, design, and color when designing her collection and Chenhui Zhang wanted to tell a story with her clothing. She created a connection with culture and tell a story of the history of the product used.
Peiyang Zou used horsehair to tailor pieces. Her goal was about “reconstruction.” Zou shares, “I am also using hand-made and ethically sourced fabrics from my hometown, quite the opposite idea of excessive consumption, to explore materiality and bring attention to sustainability.”
Jairen Du designed clothes with a color story. There were different shades of greys used to represent pollution happening in the world and Du used softer color to represent greenery.
Sechs Elements S/S 18 show proved and showed the many different ways that recycling and using sustainable resources can create fashion masterpieces.
