On The Scene: ‘White Famous’ LA Premiere

Showtime screened two episodes of its new Jamie Foxx produced comedy, ‘White Famous’, at the impossibly-posh The Jeremy Hotel in West Hollywood. This was one for the books.

The show centers on Floyd Mooney (SNL’s Jay Pharoah), a fast-rising comedian in LA. He’s making it, but he hasn’t made it.

He’s hot-headed, stubborn and hung up on his ex. He also happens to be one of the funniest acts in town.

Showtime head David Nevins introduced the episodes to a packed theater of actors and curious, possibly tipsy journalists. From the opening scene, it was a riot.

Pharoah chews up the scenery, coming off both charming and eternally frustrating. He’s got an intensity and off-kilter delivery other comedians would kill for.

The night jumped-off with a star-studded red carpet. Series co-star Utkarsh Ambudkar looked dapper in a raspberry two-piece suit. Foxx and Pharoah cracked up the press line with off the cuff jokes.

Recent Emmy winner Lena Waithe took in the episode, along with hitmaking show runner Tim Story.

Staff served curated cocktails, each named after hilarious lines from the show – The Sellout was my fave.

We hit the roof after the screening. Literally.

The after party was both lit and genial. Showtime knows it has a hit on its hands, and celebrated accordingly. Drinks flowed and so did laughter. This was a good ass night.
