We all know he hated the pope, but Michelangelo was all about the people.
For starters, Michelangelo’s dislike of authority figures and suffocating religious demagogues is quite prominent. It shows in his craft. And his most recent exhibition, merely 500 years after his death, is getting UP CLOSE, as the atmosphere perfectly captures the legacy of mankind’s greatest artist. Arrested by an architectural marvel unlike most, Michelangelo takes to the Oculus building in lower Manhattan, greeted by the public in an emulated form of his Sistine Chapel. And he has a dominating presence, his work takes up most of the show floor. Thanks to those at Westfield Corperation, New York natives and beyond will be able to analyze a near-size reproduction of the actual Chapel in Rome.
“And we’re really excited that this summer, for 4 weeks, people who live in New York, people who are visiting New York, can come downtown to this gorgeous architectural wonder that is the Oculus at World Trade Center, and see one of the most remarkable art exhibits – and most experiential – exhibits I’ve seen in a really long time,” said Scott Sanders, Westfield’s Creative Head of Global Entertainment.
