ON THE SCENE: Hublot and NY Giants Host Tailgate Party

Hublot and NY Giants host exclusive tailgate celebrating partnership and new timepiece in Midtown, just below the Empire State Building.

Ah, the humble tailgate party: a uniquely American affair involving a few SUVs and trucks around parking lot and a football field just beyond a chain-link fence. The beers are passed, corn hole is played, the hot dogs and hamburgers cooked, the team camaraderie on an all-time high. If this is a sufficient tailgate, leave it to luxury watchmaker Hublot and NY Giants to take it to a whole new level: a tailgate party to end all tailgates parties.

Taking over a parking lot with the Empire State Building towering a few blocks away (what else?), Hublot and the NY Giants brought all the tailgate necessities, but amped up to 11: Alcohol? How about some bottles of Moet champagne in a cooler off the back of a classic Ford Bronco? Or you’d rather stop by the illuminated open bar where you might bump into NY Giants wide-receiver Victor Cruz or Jean-Francois Sberro, managing director of Hublot. Food? Passed hors d’oeuvres and full BBQ bar acted as a substitute for the usual George Foreman grill hanging off the back of a minivan.

Chandeliers hang over vintage Mustangs, Shelby Cobras and Porsches and a DJ is spinning a modern hip hop set, the lighted signed of “Hublot Loves Football” presides over the entire event.

The reason for the world’s most luxurious tailgate party is twofold, and both definitely validate the whole effort: Hublot has signed a multi-year deal with the Giants to become the Official Luxury Watch and Official Timekeeper of the four-time Super Bowl champions. From a business standpoint, it’s genius: Hublot associating itself with the winning team and injecting itself into the ‘New York lifestyle’, making being a fan of the NY Giants a nearly luxurious privilege.

The other motivation? The big reveal of a Victor Cruz designed Hublot timepiece. Cruz reviewed the Hublot lines and selected the Classic Fusion as the base look for the watch, wanting to keep the line elegant, as well as sporty. Incorporating the NY Giants signature blue, the skeletal piece will start at $17,800 and can only be purchased at Hublot’s New York store.

The tailgate was a total success, and its a symbolic kick-off for the upcoming football season as well as the start of a fruitful and exciting collaboration between two distinguished brands.
