We headed over to Ace Hotel to check out the Ample Frequencies: New York installment.
In partnership with B&O PLAY, Ample Frequencies showcased a collection of curated sounds along with performances, installations and sounds specific to the city the show is taking place in. The installation series is taking place in New York, Los Angeles and London. For New York, Sam Hillmer curated the New York specific series titled Diamond Terrifier: Cipher which includes a collaboration with local experimental artists such as “Diamond Terrifier, Michael Beharie, Don Devore, Miho Hatori, vhvl and James Place. ” Ace Hotel provided the venue and B&O Play provided the wireless speakers to facilitate this amazing auditory experience.
Last night guests and passerbys stood and watched, and listened as the sounds of Ample Frequencies flooded the Ace Hotel lobby. In the middle of the lobby, musicians, DJs, beatmakers and producers sat creating the surreal auditory experience. The installation was too loud to go unnoticed, but the way the artists carried on with such focus in almost natural way, made the installation seem like it was mean to be a part of the environment rather than a focal point. Using the most mundane sounds such as that of a refrigerator to the melodies of a guitar, the flux of sounds overstimulated guests, but was an interesting scene to experience.
