Ruby Fang showcased ‘Morpheus,’ her SS19 collection during NYFW on Sunday evening. Elevated pant-suits and flattering evening gowns made statements while on the runway and the real highlight was the Chinese inspired items drawing inspiration from Fang’s heritage.
Fang’s philosophy includes merging traditional Chinese embroidery contrasted with futuristic notions and modern silhouettes.
The Ruby Fang runway took place at Industria in the neighborhood of Chelsea. The show sparkled with many in the front row dressed in glittery satin gowns. The designer unveiled a series of embellished garments. While most designers this season were keeping embellishments on the down-low, Fang celebrated this notion. This was followed by extravagant beading and more subtle pieces that exuded poise and grace. This contrast allowed the audience to connect with Fang’s latest collection whether it be through her evening pieces or her show-stopping pant-suits.
After traveling the globe searching for unique materials and notions for her SS19 collection she drew parallel to her Chinese heritage incorporating traditional beadwork and craftsmanship into her collection. The Louvre, The MET and Uffizi were sources of inspiration throughout her years of practice but this was present within her SS19 collection through aspects of architecture and art.
