Actress Rosario Dawson Arrested During Democracy Spring Protest

The actress made for a pleasant detainee.

Rosario Dawson was arrested on Saturday April 16th in Washington, D.C.  The actress was among protesters for Democracy Spring.  Dawson was apparently cooperative with authorities during the peaceful demonstration.  The actress was protesting the role of money in politics and voting rights.

In an interview with The Young Turks Dawson says she put herself within police lines to show solidarity with her fellow protesters.

“Where we sat down actually ended up being a little further away, so we ended up getting told multiple times that we were going to be arrested,” says Dawson.

The Democracy Springs protests in the capitol were to take place from April 11th to April 18th.  The protesters pledge to “risk arrest” in order to garner attention for various political grievances.

On Democracy Springs’s purpose, Dawson says, “It’s been on multiple different issues from taking money out of politics to statehood for D.C. to reestablishing the VRA…I think these are really important issues.”

Dawson claims the interactions between the police and many of the protesters have been peaceful.  The actress appeared to be in good spirits during her arrest.

“I have to say the police were really great with us and really lovely.  I have to say that is not the case for so many people.”

Dawson was fined $50 and processed during the protest.
