Backstage At Rochambeau’s Men’s RTW Spring 2017 Presentation

This past Wednesday, July 13, Rochambeau designer duo Laurence Chandler & Joshua Cooper debuted their SS17 collection on the runway at Skylight Clarkson Square in Chelsea.

The collection was a reflection on how one’s environment influences his personal style, a concept the designers described as “creatives in exile.” Each look that came down the runway was unique, representing the many different walks of life of a creative. The looks in the collection fluidly moved from dark, grunge city vibes, to vibrant prints and colors including corals, lavenders, and indigo blues.

Backstage pre-show, beyond the beautiful prints and styling choices, an important part of each look for Rochambeau’s SS17 was the grooming. The hair styling was the unsung hero that topped off each look. For the third season, AXE was the official grooming sponsor of NYFW: Men’s. Rochambeau’s lead hair stylist, known in the industry as Hos, described his vision for the looks, as “matte with a messy texture.” He wanted the models to look as if they’d just rolled out of bed. Each looked he completed was effortlessly cool. The AXE ‘Messy Look’ paste and the salt spray were included in Hos’ routine to achieve these looks.

From the energy backstage to the momentum that carried into the show, Rochambeau’s SS17 collection was a true display of the unpredictable journey and life of a creative. Chandler and Cooper delivered fresh and authentic looks and pieces, while staying true to their brand aesthetic that merges high-end menswear and street.
