DUMBO’s newest addition is here to stay

In NYC, every neighborhood has their hidden treasure restaurant or bar.  And for the longest time, much of DUMBO’s treasures have gone unnoticed…until now.  Last week, we had the opportunity to try out one of DUMBO’s newest resident hot spots, Nobody Told Me  And after trying out some of their drinks and bites, we will definitely be back.

Nobody Told Me is a restaurant that started in the Upper West Side, and with great success, opened up a section location in DUMBO.  Like the original, this location features their playful touches on classic drinks, a seasonal raw bar selection, and shareable plates and mains that are to die for.

The DUMBO location of Nobody Told Me has both indoor and outdoor seating making it the perfect spot for after work drinks or a brunch location for a hot weekend day.  The interior of this location has a nice casual vibe to it, somewhere in the middle between modern and industrial décor.  And the staff here were all so knowledgeable and friendly. One of our guests had a few allergies and was vegetarian so the servers here quickly recommended food and drink items that she could have making it such a welcoming experience for the both of us.

To start, we ordered the Sidecar Killer, which is take on the classic sidecar cocktail.  Their version includes cognac, cacao, bitter orange, and a splash of absinthe.  And after drinking this cocktail, I don’t think we can go back to a regular sidecar again.  With the first sip, you get an immediate hit of tartness from the bitter orange that plays well with the intensity of the cognac.  However, as the drink sits on your palate, it then transforms into a light orange sweetness that keeps you coming back for more.  And needless to say, this drink was spirit forward and perfect for someone who likes a bit of strength in their drink.Another drink favorite of ours was the Light + Glass which was made with Japanese vodka, lychee, sake, and aqua di cedro.  This cocktail was a beautiful take on the cult favorite lychee martini and with the addition of the sake added a burst of dry sweetness that balanced out some of the juicy sweetness from the lychee.  What made this drink stand out though was how light it was.  What sometimes makes a martini a bit too much is the weight of the drink and how heavy it is on your palate.  With the balance between the sake and the vodka, there is a lightness to this drink where it doesn’t overpower your senses but still delivers the notes of lychee and fruit that you would expect.  And obviously since this drink is a take on the classic martini, it was also very spirit forward. Next we moved onto the bites and snacks part of our meal.  We decided opted for the Hake Aguachile, the Charred Eggplant Dip, and the Falafel Burger.  The Hake Aguachile was made with pineapple, habanero, nutmeg, and taro which made the dish so bright and refreshing.  The fish was so moist, and when paired with the pineapple added a beautiful burst of sweetness.  And then paired with the heat of the habanero created a perfect sweet and spicy moment that lit our taste buds up.  For those that love a good summer ceviche type dish, we recommend that to you. Next was the Charred Eggplant Dip which was made with pistachio, berbere spice, and paired with crudite for dipping.  Personally, a charred eggplant will always be a winner for me.  The smokiness from the eggplant made for such a savory bite.  The texture of the eggplant was smooth and buttery where it coated the crudite perfect and made for the perfect bite.  And the nuttiness from the pistachio paired incredibly well with the smoky eggplant.  Lastly, there was the Falafel Burger.  This burger was absolutely incredible.  The falafel patty was seasoned so well and came out so moist.  And the accompanying harissa-y sauce added a nice creamy heat flavor profile to the burger that lit up our palate with each bite.  This burger is a must have for anyone dining at Nobody Told Me. Thank us later. All in all, we had such an incredible time dining and drinking at Nobody Told Me.  This location stands on its own and delivers delicious drinks and food.  The staff here were incredibly helpful and so attentive to each guest’s wants and needs.  Needless to say, we will be making the trek to DUMBO soon so we can enjoy the offerings at Nobody Told Me.
