Republic Records Signee Stefan James Rocks the E&C Studio and Previews New Music

On the eve of the release of his lead single “Situation,” new Republic Records signee Stefan James welcomed fans and industry insiders alike to the E&C Studio in lower Manhattan for his first ever album listening party on Thursday, September 13th.

After allowing the crowd to mingle among the amber red ambiance, Republic Records Co-Founder and CEO Monte Lipman took to the stage to introduce Republic’s newest family member who joins iconic artists already on their roster such as Ariana Grande, Drake and Black Sabbath.

Packed to full capacity, Lipman then welcomed everyone to the venue, which looks reminiscent of a 1970s recording studio. The lounge is adorned with music memorabilia across its walls, with one showcasing a portrait of Prince crafted using old cassette tapes and another with a sign emitting the lyrics from Hank Ballard’s iconic tune, “The Twist.” Looking around at all the references to music old and new, one must ponder if the up and coming 20-year-old Maryland native will one day grace these walls with his very own art piece.

Bringing the conversation back to James, Lipman shared his mantra, “we find em, we sign em, we break em” and then introduced him as the “best new artist of 2019.”

James took to the stage, cut right to the chase and without saying a single word waited for the music to begin and let his music speak for himself as his incredible falsetto took center stage.

Rocking his signature bleach streaked hair and making sure his array of body art was in full view, James played a total of 5 songs from his new album which has yet to be given an official release date.

“I think he’s incredible,” one audience member shared. “He’s got it. I get goosebumps anytime I listen to him sing.”

James’ music comes from his soul and the facing of his demons, with the songs he previewed inspired by his battle with addiction and substance abuse as well as the tragic loss of his older brother who passed away of an apparent suicide while suffering from withdrawal.

Creating music is what allowed James to share his pain and in doing so he hopes to inspire and help others. “I’ve been there,” he shared in a press release. “When you’re feeling down, just put a couple of my songs on and cry or smile. Whatever you have to do to get through that moment. You’re not alone.”

Only time will tell what young James will go on to accomplish but it can certainly be said one would be a fool to question his future in the music business. Within the short time spent with the Pop and R&B crooner, he captivated each and every member of the audience with his radiant vocal power and clear star presence.
