The 17th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood® Awards, held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the prestigious Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, was nothing short of a spectacular celebration of Black excellence.

Hosted by the multi-talented Cliff “Method Man” Smith, the event honored trailblazers and luminaries across various fields, from entertainment to entrepreneurship. Let’s delve into the memorable moments and noteworthy honorees of the evening. Among the esteemed honorees were actress and Grammy Award winner Danielle Brooks, whose powerful performance garnered her an Academy Award nomination; Halle Bailey, the six-time Grammy-nominated singer and leading actress; the acclaimed screenwriter and showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll; and industry powerhouse Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ.

The event drew an array of stars, including Normani, Tina Knowles, Leslie Jones, Letitia Wright, Da’Vinci, Teyonah Parris, Skai Jackson, Aldis Hodge, Marsai Martin, Anthony Anderson, Gabourey Sidibe, Lance Gross, and many more, making it a truly unforgettable night. Emmy Award-winning actress Zendaya graced the event, showcasing a stylish new bob haircut alongside fashion legend Law Roach. Their presence added a touch of glamour to the already star-studded affair. The red carpet was not only a platform for fashion and style but also a space to celebrate love. Couples like actor and rapper Joey Bada$$ and singer & actress Serayah, along with BET’s Sistas and Zatima actor Devale Ellis and his wife Khadeen Ellis, shared touching moments, exemplifying the beauty of Black love. Actress Erika Alexander, joined by Kim Cole and renowned TV writer and producer Yvette Lee Bowser, stirred nostalgic memories from the iconic show ‘Living Single’, which recently marked its 30-year milestone. Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley, beloved twin actresses and TV personalities, took a trip down memory lane, charming the audience with their presence and reminiscences.

One of the most poignant moments of the evening came from Halle Bailey, who, alongside her sister Chloe Bailey, shared a soul-stirring speech reflecting on her greatest achievement – motherhood. The bond between the sisters and their touching words resonated deeply with the audience. Danielle Brooks received a standing ovation as she sang the gospel melody, “I Won’t Complain,” while accepting her award, leaving an indelible mark with her powerful performance. Grammy-winning artist Muni Long closed the show with her hit song, “Made for Me,” igniting the crowd and leaving them on their feet, energized by her electrifying performance.
