The Afrobeats star Davido launches his second Puma collaboration at the NYC Flagship store on Nigerian Independence Day.
For this year’s Nigerian Independence Day [Oct. 1st,] the musician celebrated by launching his second collection with the renowned brand. In a cozy-intimate style set-up, the flagship store included a DJ set from ECOOL, traditional hors d’oeuvres by Lagos NYC, and deliciously sweet and curated cocktails by cognac brand, Martell.
Other notable panelists of the evening included April Pope (VP, Label Dev. & Marketing, ADA Worldwide), Yung Willis (Grammy-nominated Producer), and David Ponte (Co-founder & CMO, Audiomack) about the influence of Africa’s style, sound, and cultural impact. On the stage hosting the panel was Rolling Stone’s journalist, Mankaprr Conteh, and featured fellow Afrobeats alum Stonebwoy in support of Davido who took the stage to share his insight on the emerging sound.
“It’s different when people love your music, but it’s different when people buy your product.” Davido shares happily when recollecting the success of his first collaboration back last year. The first launch was a limited drop of T-shirts and tracksuits. Due to the success of the first launch and the outpouring support, the star shares how the brand went “all out” by dropping a full line, including sneakers and slides, which to Davido, felt is what the consumers love. “People love shoes! This time we definitely got to get shoes, and slides for whenever people [consumers] want to chill.” He says , while sporting his tracksuit and sneakers. “This deal is the main deal, you know what I’m saying? They [Puma] brought the bag!”
The new Puma launch is now available at the Puma NYC Flagship store, located on 5th Avenue.
