Pitbull was announced the honorary godfather to Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Norwegian Escape cruise ship.
Pitbull christened the ship in a ceremony on Nov. 9 in Miami. During the ceremony Pitbull sent of the cruise ship on it’s first voyage to Eastern Caribbean and performed his hit “Don’t Stop the Party.”
Being named godfather is another step in the artist’s relationship with the cruise line. Most recently he performed in February at the christening of their ship the Norwegian Getaway. Norwegian Cruise Line’s President Andy Stuart said in a statement with Pitbull being, “A Miami native, he epitomizes and contributes to the energy, excitement and local flavor that our ships so proudly embody.”
Naming a godfather to a new ship in a tradition dating back to the 1800’s. The godfather has the responsibility of naming and christening the ship. They then remain a part of the ships ‘life’ forever.
The Norwegian Escape is the cruise line’s largest vessel ever and fifth largest in the from any line. From it’s homeport in Miami, the vessel will cary 42 hundred passengers on its maiden voyage. The Escape also features innovative dining options and a wide array of entertainment options. The company is looking forward to furthering their partnership with the artist.
