Osteria 57 is Serving the Most Innovative Italian Food in New York

New York City has so many Italian restaurants that it’s often a challenge—and sometimes incredibly frustrating—to choose the right one to dine at. If you’re looking for hearty pastas with the freshest seafood, locally produced veggies, affordable prices, and a cozy atmosphere, then make a reservation at Osteria 57.

Located at 57 West 10th Street in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, Osteria 57 is a neighborhood gem. Opened since September 2017, the intimate restaurant is meat and poultry free, but offers authentic Italian cuisine that uniquely combines traditional hearty dishes with handmade pasta, delectable fish and garden-grown vegetables, resulting in the most tasty and innovative food in the city.

The Knockturnal was recently invited to Osteria 57 to taste their latest menu that left us very full and satisfied.

Starting with the burrata as an appetizer, the cheese was prepared with braised leeks, roasted apples, and walnut pesto. It was extremely light, yet filling and milky at the same time. It was incredible and the perfect dish to start out our evening dinner. Next, we were served the Winter Squash, which consisted of smoked ricotta, horseradish, pumpkin seeds, scallion and saba. The entire plate was colorful, flavorful and delicious. Immediately after, a creamy ricotta toast topped with generous amounts of black truffle and honey was delivered to our table. The whipped ricotta melted in our mouths and the truffles added some savory earthiness, which was truly delightful.

For our pasta, our wonderful server, Dario, brought us a Kabocha Squash Cappellacci made with brown butter sauce, hazelnut, taleggio fondue and fried sage. The dish was sweet with the right amount of squash to make it rich in tanginess. To offset the sweetness, our next pasta item was the Fusilli Al Ragu Di Funghi, which consists of seasonal mushrooms, arugula pesto, and parmigiano reggiano. This was absolutely the best pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and we were told that the chefs at Osteria 57 hand make and twist every single Fusilli corkscrew noodle one-by-one. The taste is incredible and the tenderness of the mushrooms makes it a must-have.

The last item of the night was a pasta dish with lobster, black truffle and butter sauce. It was the perfect balance with the lobster and the truffles really complimenting each other. It has rich flavors and is another winner!

For drinks we were served a Vermentino Di Sardegna white wine, which was smooth and light-bodied, paired brilliantly with our dishes. We also tried the Lugana, which is a dry white wine. A full menu of cocktails, red wine, white wine, beer, rosé and Prosecco is also available.

The service at Osteria 57 was extremely friendly and personable. The wait staff took the time to explain all the dishes on the menu right away. The restaurant itself is also inviting. On the ground floor of an old brownstone, the dimly-lit, dark rustic interior of the restaurant offers an intimate, relaxing atmosphere. The beautiful dining room with a bar is cozy and a back room for private events and parties is available. Lastly, they do have individual cabanas that are covered and private for outdoor seating.

In addition to their current menu, Osteria 57 has partnered with Eel Town Oysters from Shelter Island, New York, to offer the best local oysters as part of a special pre-fixe meal. This oyster-inspired menu is available for a limited six weeks, starting October 15 through November 21, and only offered from Sunday through Tuesday. Guests can book a reservation via Resy. The cost for the dinner is $57 per person (before tax and gratuity). Whether you like to shuck oysters, slurp them raw or knock them back doused in lemon juice, get them at Osteria 57 along with the most yummy pastas, fish and vegetables. You’ll have the best quality food and an unforgettable experience.
