We attended a party on the big night with a film critics’ panel…
The 90th Oscars took place on March 4, 2018 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, CA. Meanwhile, at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, we attended a film critics’ panel on the past year in film, presented by The Village Voice.
Critics Bilge Ebiri, Lara Zarum, Ren Jender, and Kyle Turner and editor Alan Scherstuhl spoke on the panel. They offered their thoughts on the nominees, and the shifting climate in Hollywood as the open secret of generations of sexual abuse continues to be exposed to the public.
Following the panel, the Film Society hosted a reception and viewing party of the event itself, sponsored by Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Peroni.
As each winner was announced, the crowd at Lincoln Center reacted at varying degrees of enthusiasm. The room erupted into a thundering roar of cheers when Get Out won Best Original Screenplay and met other wins with a sparse smattering of applause.
