On The Scene: ‘The WIZRD’ Documentary Screening

Apple Music and Mass Appeal released a documentary about Future entitled “The WIZRD.” This is also the title of his upcoming album that released on January 18th.

We got to view the documentary at IPIC Theaters and see it before it debuted on Apple Music. The documentary has footage from the past 7 years of Future’s life and career. The hour-long documentary follows Future’s life through the three different tours he’s done in the past years including: Purple Reign Tour, Summer Sixteen Tour with Drake and Nobody Safe Tour. This film shows his day to day to life with his family and friends. It also shows him while he was recording albums and mixtapes and his life on tour. The documentary also features many artists and producers that have worked with Future as they give their insights and describe experiences that they’ve had with him.

The documentary shows how Future first started his career in the music industry, with the support of his cousin Rico Wade of the Dungeon Family and longtime Outkast producer. Rico was able to help Future focus on his music and sound and he came out and shifted the music scene in Atlanta at that time. Fellow artists and producers talked about Future’s work ethic very highly since it’s one of the main things that’s kept him at the top for so long. Throughout the documentary Future reflects on his past and how he got to where he is now. Through all the struggles and victories he’s able to stay level headed and continue to make great music for his fans and provide a comfortable lifestyle for his family. The documentary is able to show the different transitions Future has gone through in the past couple of years of his life musically and personally.

Andre 3000 who is featured heavily in this documentary talked about him and his son being Future fanatics and listening to all his music. Andre went on and said, “Future makes the most negative inspirational music ever”.

Future wanted to dedicate this film to his late friend and engineer Seth Firkins, who was someone he was very close to. Future talked about Seth being one of the closest people in his life but both coming from two totally different backgrounds and upbringings and were still able to be best friends.

After the documentary was shown, Future answered some questions about the documentary and about the upcoming album that he’s dropping. He talked about how hesitant he was about making a documentary about his personal life but the producers and director were able to make it easier by just acting like a fly on the wall and letting everything come very organically and not staging anything.
