New York Fashion Week is just warming up but Teyana Taylor’s latest collection is coming in hot!
On Friday, singer-songwriter, actress, and dancer Teyana Taylor launched her first unisex collection in collaboration with U.K.-based fashion retailer Pretty Little Thing at NYFW. This comes almost a year after Teyana’s first collection with the brand as their U.S. creative director, but make no mistake about it, her latest rollout is uniquely different from her last.
Drawing inspiration from the hustle and bustle of New York City, the show takes you on a —literal— subway ride through the singer’s hometown of Harlem. The city is known for its diverse population, so it was no surprise to see models of all genders, shapes, sizes, and disabilities in the spotlight. Aside from the exciting collection, Teyana’s need for inclusivity in her show shined through. From men and women, petite to plus size and even kids wear, this collection has something for everyone.
Teyana’s approach to Autumn/Winter streetwear is far from typical. Her designs are a refreshing yet nostalgic tribute to NYC in the ’90s during its much colder days, experimenting with monochromatic colors and paisley patterns on an array of garments including puffer coats, jogger sets, dresses, and sexy mesh catsuits for an extra pop.
The stars weren’t only confined to the sidelines. Rapper Lil Durk opened the show performing some of his hits including his recent collaboration with Drake, “Laugh Now, Cry Later.” Models in the show included rapper Maliibu Mitch and celebrity hairstylist Tokyo Stylez. Teyana’s adorable daughter Junie even made her runway debut wearing a kid’s version of the designs. Lala Anthony, Jonathan Cheben, Chanel Iman, and Swae Lee were just a few of the many celebrities enjoying the show.
If you couldn’t witness this epic night in person, no worries! Pretty Little Thing has a livestream of the entire show:
