The cast celebrates their hilarious new sitcom, Survival Of The Thickest at NYC’s Metrograph!
From Buteaupia, Someone Great, to The Circle, Buteau is celebrating her newest release on Netflix, Survival Of The Thickest. “I love Netflix. it’s a good relationship” Michelle says when discussing her relationship with the production company. “It’s a beautiful platform where I can be my authentic self. I’m not going to make it work with a bunch of people that don’t get me” Buteau says. Survival Of The Thickest is based on her self-published book. The essays reflect on an array of Michelle’s personal life such as dating disasters, being thick, friendships, etc. “There were central themes I wanted to get into”, Michelle says when discussing the creation process. “The writers who are amazing said ‘You have so much stuff to work from, we can build it out!'”
The cast chemistry on the carpet is as animated as on the screen. Tasha Smith, who plays Marley, arrived on the carpet amping up her cast. “Sorry, a bitch has arrived!” she says unapologetically. “I’m proud of the diversity and inclusion of the show” Tasha shares with us. “She [Michelle] brought a beautiful community together and it represents who she is as a friend, as a sister, as a neighbor, as everything!” Tasha said.
After the carpet, we headed into the theater to watch the series’ first three episodes. Laughter filled the room as we viewed the hilarious new show! After the series, we celebrated with a mixer-style after-party with light bites, refreshments, and music. Guests were also able to take home some chocolate pop tarts (a show reference), and a physical copy of the book.
