On Saturday, September 14, 2019 I attended the Revolt Summit here in Atlanta, GA put on by Diddy and Combs Enterprises. The event was both inspiring and enlightening! The event hosted many different sessions with a plethora of celebrity event hosts dropping gems of knowledge about how they have survived and made their mark on the entertainment and music industry. Celebrities in attendance were Terrence J, Teyana Taylor, Angie Martinez, Tamika Mallory, Dia Simms, DJ Khaled, Quincy Combs, Justin Combs, Christian Combs, T.I, Killer Mike, and of course Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Diddy took the time to highlight and recognize his former Executive Assistant, Dia Simms, who is now the President of Combs Enterprises. It was refreshing for him to highlight and praise a minority woman in the executive arena who worked her way up to being respected and recognized in this industry. Diddy spoke on how she has maintained her professionalism and made her mark within the company. Dia stated, “I remember staying up 24 hours as his assistant to make sure he had the correct marketing pitch that he was trying to convey. That work paid off.”
Killer Mike and TI took to the stage to speak about Hip Hop and politics in a segment called “Trap the Vote”. In this segment, Candace Owens and Katrina Pierson were the additional panelists. T.I stated, “He (Trump) has done great things, like the criminal justice reform, but it’s all from the opportunist stand point. He has manipulated black people into thinking that if we get him (speaking of A$AP Rocky) out of jail then he is for us. Black people have been moving forward for generation after generation.” Killer Mike even dropped some gems stating, “What you are seeing right now is three people who are arguing over who has the best master. I’ll tell you when America was great, seven years after the ending of the Civil War. Blacks accumulated over 15 million acres of land. Black people where the only skilled laborers in there.” This summit was both informative and electrifying because very intelligent and articulate points were made.
All in all, AT&T x Revolt Summit 2019 in Atlanta was an enjoyable experience and kudos to Diddy for allowing such an occasion to happen in his name.
