On The Scene: Jill Stuart Gets Ballerina Chic at Spring/Summary ’17 Runway Show

Jill Stuart showed her Spring/Summer 2017 collection at Dune Studios just steps from the Elevated Acre, a green oasis of solitude in the Financial District.

And her latest collection reflected that refined and feminine taste Stuart is known for.

“The inspiration came from this girl that’s a performer and a dancer, it came from Loie Fuller, the serpentine dancer, Stuart told Hollywood Life. “She’s going from dress rehearsal to the stage and in this dark dramatic, kind of mood.”

Sitting front row were a bevy of chic women, including Zosia Mamet, Kelly Killorean Bensimon, Julia Goldani-Telles, and singer Dej Loaf.

Stuart is also known for wearable separates and that’s what she delivered. Taking the form of stylish layers, models were draped in chiffon dresses and minis over colorful leggings. Other themes included jersey wrap dresses and asymmetrical capes and oversized shirts and skirts. Pattern-wise, Stuart stuck to what she knows best — florals and colorblocking.

For a fresh take on the ballerina sweater, the designer featured Lurex sleeves paired with flowy dresses. Shorter sweaters took the form of the shrug (a dancer staple), and sweetheart necklines reminded us of the stage.
Standouts included a soft pink A line chiffon dress over a black long sleeve sweater, a silver Asymmetrical dress with black sleeves, and a black and white checkered transparent oversized dress.
