We’re kicking off Grammy week at LA Live’s Grammy Museum for the official launch of Beyond Black — The Style Of Amy Winehouse.
One of the world’s most unforgettable fashion icons, Winehouse had a voice that made you stop and listen and a style that made you stop and stare. “Effortless,” is how some would define her brave fashion choices. High hair, high heels, and bold colors. The event was attended by curators, close friends, and fashion influencers of Amy, Naomi Parry, and Catriona Gourlay. A blue-haired Kelly Osbourne was also seen among the crowd.
Parry and Gourlay told attendees that this was the first time they had publicly discussed or shared their friendship with Winehouse since her death. The wounds were too deep and their friendships sacred. The items featured throughout the exhibit are from their personal collections, along with some items shared by Amy’s family. Gourlay anticipates adding more items to the exhibit in the upcoming weeks. Specifically earrings belonging to the Grammy winner. “A friend asked me… are those as cheap as they look? I answered, yes.” She laughed with the audience.
The bombshell? Learning that Amy’s staple winged eyeliner is Rimmel! Yes, it’s been hiding at CVS this entire time!
Fans of Winehouse got to explore the museum while sipping cocktails. Aside from the second-floor exhibit, each additional floor had a different Amy themed experience to enjoy; from having your picture drawn next to Amy or taken in a Winehouse themed photo booth.
You can see journals, unseen lyrics, and some of Amy’s most treasured items at Beyond Black — The Style Of Amy Winehouse running through April 13 2020 at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles.
