We made it to the auspicious occasion at a speakeasy, The Back Room. Transported to a Rock & Roll Revolutionary Era setting filled with Hercules Mulligan libations, a signing and talk by Aaron, a Hamilton mash up performance and talk by Fergie Philippe (the original Hercules Mulligan from the musical HAMILTON), Irish Modern Traditional live music as well as many other unexpected moments to indulge in.
This was the perfect opportunity to learn more About Hercules Mulligan, the Irish-American unsung hero, and discover the secrets of a man that saved George Washington’s life on more than one occasion.
“Mulligan was incredibly intelligent, resourceful and really brave spy” – Fergie Philippe describes the character he played on Broadway for five years. He goes on to say that the character he plays, was truly the first American spy and in a sense that captured the ways in which he was able to help George Washington secure the American Revolution. It was truly astounding and the work he did was so brilliant. “The whiskey is really great, yes but this specific cocktail that they made is a mix of flavors with a little bit of spice and sweetness with a kick. Truly all of those things are how I would describe Mulligan. He’s the life of the party, he’s super funny and has all the best raps in the show [Hamilton].”
Goldfarb talks about how Mulligan might be one of the most famous men of all time and there’s almost nothing written about him. What we know is that he is kind of a Forrest Gump character who has touched everyone important during the American Revolution. He says he was able to fill in the rest of that story with creative ideas, giving us the book we created now.
After whispering the password to enter, we were taken back to the era where this hero once lived. We listened to Irish folk music while relishing in great drinks, and being whisked away to an era bygone, rock & rock style.
