On The Scene: Canada’s Oscar Salute Celebration

Hollywood is the place to be this week with all of the star studded pre Oscar celebrations going on. Friday evening The Consul General Of Canada Zaib Shaikh hosted a poolside soiree in celebration of the Canadian nominees. The event took place at the gorgeous Official Residence of Canada and of course The Knockturnal had to be present. Many guests gathered to celebrate Canada’s achievement in film including nominees Alison Snowden (Animal Behaviour), David Fine (Animal Behaviour), Domee Shi (Bao), Jeremy Comte (Fauve), Marianne Farley (Marguerite), Marie-Helene Panisset (Marguerite), and Trevor Jimenez (Weekends).

Nia Vardalos and Kate Flannery

Although it’s their 4th time being nominated, the last time Alison Snowden and David Fine were nominated was 24 years ago.  “We’re proud of the film and proud of all of the nominees,” they shared.

Also in attendance was If Beale Street Could Talk actor Stephen James along with brother Shamier Anderson. They both sported matching black and red varsity letterman jackets. This year five out of the ten Oscar nominated short films were made by Canadians which means a win for Canada is very likely. The menu was “shorts” inspired which seemed fitting for the occasion. Attendees enjoyed short rib sliders, short grain rice scallop risotto, micro greens spring rolls, shrimp ceviche, and mini mac & cheese.
