On the Scene: Back on the Strip Red Carpet and Premiere

Last Wednesday, the upcoming comedy Back on the Strip starring Tiffany Haddish, J.B. Smoove, and Wesley Snipes, premiered at TCL Chinese 6 Theaters. Gary Owen and director/co-writer Chris Spencer were among some of those in attendance.

In attendance was most of the cast, including comedian Gary Owen who plays one of the male male stripper in the film and Emelina Adams who plays Owens’ wife in the film. Some of the names behind the film were also in attendance including Chris Spencer, making his directorial debut as well as co-writer Eric Daniels and Producer Geno Taylor.

After losing the woman of his dreams, Merlin (Spence Moore II) moves to Las Vegas to pursue work as a magician, only to get hired as the frontman in a revival of the notorious Black male stripper crew, the Chocolate Chips. The film also stars Faizon Love (Friday, Elf) and a features a cameo from comedy legend Kevin Hart.

Gary Owen, who plays Dr. X in the film, shared his experience on set, highlighting the conversations with Snipes between takes specifically how down to earth Snipes was and how he was interested in the stories his fellow actors had to tell.

We also had the chance to speak to Spencer about his experience directing, who had only great things to say about the mass talent under his direction. When asked about his influences, he explained that he took a little from all the greats (i.e. Spike Lee).
