NYFWM: Sanchez Kane Presents Spring 2018 Collection

Men’s 2017 Fashion Week pushed the boundaries between fashion and risqué in designer Sanchez Kane’s 2018 Spring collection.

Sanchez Kane’s 2017 Fashion Week debut was nothing short of eye-catching, with models covered in foil and metal pieces hanging from their necks.

With his inventive take on a neutral palette, Kane incorporated textures and graphics to create a very distinctive statement of rebellion and revolt against the norm of men’s fashion.

The use of classic and modern iconography melds both the designer’s statement of dissention with 2017’s most prominent trends. The use of trench coats and long clothing dimensions blur the lines of gender normative clothing.

Yet the most awe-striking feature of the night was his use of stark lines and color blocking featured throughout the collection. Models were dressed in everything from oversized jumpsuits with just a touch of color to army green blazers atop oversized shorts.

Yet, the highlight of the night was not the clothing as much as what was printed and embroidered into the clothing. Models posed in jean ensembles with phrases like “Post Coital Relationship” printed on the back.

As audience members struggled to read what was on written on the collection pieces, many were very taken aback by the crass and unapologetic statements from designer Sanchez Kane.

Without a doubt, Sanchez Kane utilized his newest collection to remind the world what fashion was originally intended for, to create your own statement.

Special thanks to AXE for the invite. As part of its continued partnership with the CFDA, AXE supported nine emerging designers at Skylight Clarkson Sq (550 Washington St.) by providing backstage grooming at their shows.
