NYFWM: Lucio Castro Fall/Winter 2016 Presentation

For 2016’s Men’s Fashion Week, we started at Industria Superstudios in the Meatpacking District, NYC. Here we experienced New York Men’s Day, brought to you by Cadillac, exploring several presentations. Check out our notes on Lucio Castro ‘s Fall/Winter 2016 collection!

We think Lucio Castro has been bit by the #newGucci bug. That is, an obsession with feminine materials, textures, and silhouettes, looks paired with oversized glasses, cheeky haircuts and surprise! Doc Marten boots. Look, we’re not bored of #newGucci. Nope, we’re thrilled because the New Gucci image is perfectly androgynous, perfectly fun, British dry validated by New York seriousness. Looks involved longer shirts, pajamas in your-grandmothers-sofa stripes, incorporating dimmed greens, browns, tans, ‘found’ jewelry attachments like chains and cuffs. Consider this in light of slouchy suits that aren’t quite informal, but certainly have no place in any real office. That’s fine– Lucio’s collection plays in a different era and a different playground altogether. It’s more playful than #NewGucci itself, with space age vibes and even a Scooby-Doo look, goth Daria moments and more. Maybe we pinned the Lucio Castro show not as too unrealistic, but playfully cartoonish of a time gone by. Its dark energy made celebratory, nostalgia made new. Scratch feminine– this is classic razzle-dazzle liberalism at its finest. Taking a peak at the artist’s statement: we missed by a bit, this #newGucci is inspired by the UK music scene. Close enough, talk about depressed (but whimsical!) chic.
