NYFWM: Bode Fall/Winter 2017 Presentation

New York Fashion Week Men’s Bode Fall Winter 2017 Men’s Show was presented at Skylight: Clarkson Square with Axe. Check it out.

Bode Fall/Winter 2017 is a highly evolved collection that is at once unpredictable but comfortable in its execution. It’s stuff you could’ve picked up at a flea market or your grandmother’s house, composed in a manner that is both sensitive and casual. The textures were everything from quilt-y to downright soft, with vintage elements thrown in. It felt like a house you know well enough, and long for its textures. But the whole thing was reasonably modern. The designer has a sensitivity to cut which is essential when working with material that could be regarded as “old”. But that’s thanks to a near-universal trend at New York fashion week that involved a newfound attention to set and display. Gone are the rows of models on low stools. In comes a theatrical environment that could be the set for a vintage sitcom. It was sunny and hopeful and innocent, a comfortable break from the politically-sensitive collections of late. A focus on the home and a life domestic is a satisfying trend that we’d like to see more of. A look away from “atheleisure” and towards comfort for comfort’s sake. Case in point: the beautiful quilt coats that are Bode’s best-known work.

Backstage, we spoke with the team at AXE about makeup and hair.

John Ruidant on hair:

We went with something varied, there’s an element of mid-century and vintage here. Some of the guys with shorter hair went for a pretty shiny pomade, slicked and combed. Used AXE Clean Cut Look Pomade. Other guys got Smooth Look Shine Pomade. Either way, we wanted a home-look but also a tidy look. The girls got a salt spray and we worked with their nature hair, giving style that was comfortable and looked like she was working around the home.
