It’s almost that time of the year again. No we’re not talking about Valentine’s Day, we’re talking New York Fashion week! Before the top designers hit the runway to show off their latest collections, we have a sneak preview of whats to come. Well sort of … we have their inspirations.
Check out the inspirations from Banana Republic, BCBG, Marissa Webb, O’2nd, Concept Korea, Fashion Hong Kong and more below:
Designer Marissa Webb was inspired by “Dandizette.”
O’2nd Brand Director Minsoo Chung was inspired by “A vintage mood meets a modern city.”
The O’2nd Fall/Winter collection is inspired by the Victorian era and embraces a high-vintage theme. The name of the collection, “City and Crafts,” suggests the crafty, elaborate design detail re-interpreted to fit into a wearable everyday city lifestyle. Hand crafted design details, brass buttons and military double breast silhouettes meet slits, cutting and tying techniques to resonate the Victorian mood. American artist Frank Stella’s black and white artwork additionally inspires the design details throughout the collection, with subtle fall and winter color palettes alongside red and cornflower blue point colors to emphasize sophistication.
DESIGNER: JARRET
The Fall/Winter 2016 collection was inspired by the rich qualities and characteristics that pass “in blood.”
“He gently flows in my heart.” – Designer, Jarret
DESIGNER: YOHANIX
With inspiration taken from Hamlet’s syndrome, the collection brings to life the story of intelligent people who embrace the unknown and aspire to be more than themselves.
“We dream to be the one.” – Designer, Yohanix
DESIGNER: HARRISON WONG
For his F/W 2016 Collection, Harrison Wong has turned his focus to planet Earth and drew inspirations from Mother Nature. The collection is also inspired by the work from Andy Goldsworthy, a sculptor and environmentalist whose art directly engages with the environment.
Organic textures and marble are the collection’s primary elements. The contrast between loose and tight fits echo with the diversity found in nature. While the collection’s silhouettes draw on influences from the 1970’s and 1980’s, Stone Lines infuses natural elements with the purity of modern minimalism.
“Minimalism inspired by earth and stone.” – Designer, Harrison Wong
DESIGNER: HIDY N.G.
Unruly Luxuriance, the title of the Fall/Winter 2016 collection, is the epitome of HIDY N.G. The collection is inspired by a lady who is independent and elegant yet who enjoys putting together extraordinary outfits. Her eccentricity and free-spirited selections bring out her free personality in styling tastefully. The collection is characterized by elegant layers, adorned with ruffled and irregular hems. Black and white pieces ooze classic glamour combined with an enchanting sensation of vintage gold. Luxurious fabrics such as silk organza, French laces, ostrich feathers, heavy wool as well as intricate embellishments are employed to assemble the unruly yet graceful symphony.
DESIGNER: LOOM LOOP
The F/W 2016 collection is inspired by a Chinese legend of a tragic love story, Butterfly Lovers and its theme is androgynous. It begins with 2 characters – Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. Zhu disguised herself as a boy and left for an academy. As time goes by, they became inseparable companions and Zhu realized that she was in love.
True to Loom Loop’s philosophy, the key look is relaxed yet expressive. To balance the melancholic feminine palette in dark forest green and burgundy colours, masculinity is expressed through the tubular-shaped dresses added with a dash of humour in the farfalle print. The use of the most luxurious silk in the tailoring adds fluidity to the clean lines and structured silhouette, paying homage to Zhu’s identity from the story.
In addition to the statement prints, crafted pieces in Canton silk that are minimalist with subtle detailing and block coloring characterizes the collection, which allows the artisanal fabric to speak for itself.
“Androgynous by Butterfly Lovers”– Designer Polly Ho, Loom Loop
