NY Foundling Hosts Cocktails & Bites Celebrating NY Youth & Foster Care Awareness Month

The New York Foundling’s Annual Blue Party raises money to provide the support for programs that set youth in foster care up for future success.

Some examples are programs such as the after-school support, Camp Felix, Haven Academy and the tutoring and educational advocacy services. As we are in the midst of Foster Care Month, the Foundling’s CEO and President Bill Baccaglini emphasized the community’s role in aiding the youth. Remarking that,“Beyond keeping kids safe, perhaps our greatest obligation is to educate them.” Most of the kids who leave the foster care system are statistically more likely to re enter, “Education is the key out,” said Baccaglini. The Foundling’s mission is to help young people in crisis, adolescents whose lives have gone off track, and prevent families from breaking apart. This organization is one of New York’s oldest child welfare agencies serving over 27,000 children and families each year and working daily to ensure one day they can live independent, stable, fulfilling lives. The event hosted more than 450 guests at the Bowery Hotel on May 9, 2018 and raised a remarkable $140,000 all going towards the programs supporting youth in foster care!

Founded by the Sisters of Charity in 1869 as a home for abandoned children, The Foundling today works to provide services for underserved children, families, and adults with developmental disabilities. This including but never limited to; an abused child in need of a foster home, a young mother who lacks the skills to care for her child, or a young person lost in the juvenile justice system. The Foundling provides the resources necessary to rebuild lives and rebuild families. All children have the right to grow up in loving and healthy environments that pave the way for success. Parents who want to care for and protect their children but don’t have the proper footstep will be guided by the Foundling organization. Additionally, the devastating effects of poverty, substance abuse, violence and lack of opportunity are combatted through their use of support services. The event was proudly sponsored by Focus Financial Partners, Waldorf Risk Solutions, UPS, Tengram Capital Partners, Wells Fargo Private Bank and more.

The Foundling works tirelessly in advocating for a world where every person, regardless of background or circumstance, can reach their full potential. In order to achieve this, they provide, “evidence-based and evidence-informed programs that focus on keeping families together; preventing abuse and neglect; providing academic support for children; and giving people with developmental disabilities the tools and training they need to lead independent lives.”
