NxWorries Swings In With A New EP

To say NxWorries is a dream of a collaboration is starting to sound like an understatement with every track they release.

When I first listened to “Suede”, I was all but knocked out of my seat. From the simple but genius sample of Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Bottle”, to Paak’s effortless transitions out of rapping into singing, the record was a perfect soul filled gumbo.

Listening through this teaser EP, Suede & Link Up, I was really pleased to hear that the style exuded in Suede wasn’t lost on “Link Up” and “Droogs” (which is a remix of Paak’s track “Drugs” produced by Lo Def). Knxwledge not only kept the soul sampling, but throws in a more lo-fi sound. Honestly, I wasn’t really sure how Paak would fair over that addition, but he instantly proved me wrong sounding so comfortable I could picture Paak sitting in the studio singing in some slippers with a spliff in his hand.

“Droogs” is really cool in it’s own way, but I think listeners won’t really get it unless they’ve heard “Drugs”, which is totally fine and is clearly the intention with the vocal sample chopped in explaining that this track is for the cats that’ve been with them from the jump. It’s such a divergence from the original, I’m actually surprised Knxwledge made it sound so smooth.

The instrumental interludes were as good as what Knxwledge normally puts out, which is to say, perfect. I hope they won’t play like Jay Electronica, and come through soon with a full LP, Nxworries is too dope not to have a full discography.
