With a stacked NMF, we’ve rounded up the best electronic releases of the week.
LEVIT∆TE – LEGACY [LEVITATEMUSIC]
Over the last few years, the audiovisual artist has established his place as one of the most distinguished producers in his class. With inspirations stemming from dubstep, drum & bass, turntablism, hip-hop, and left-field bass music, LEViT∆TE has forged his own lane with his versatility and an unmistakable futuristic sound. A pioneer in his class, LEViT∆TE is revered for his ability to dissolve genre barriers existing within modern music. His debut LP is a powerful testament to just that, with album track one setting the precedent immediately featuring ten sonic tracks, each accompanied by a visual counterpart, Legacy is the long-awaited full debut from one of music’s most promising acts.
HOLOGRAMME – GEIST IM GLAS (FELICITY REMIXES) [SOCIÉTÉ HOLOGRAPHIQUE DE MONTRÉAL]
Just over a year after his debut studio album, Montréal’s ascending electronica act is closing this chapter with a brand new remix EP titled ‘Geist Im Glas’. Featuring remixes by Fakear, Lunice, Moses Bélange, Robert Robert and Ouri, Geist Im Glas (or Ghost in a Glass in german) is a dreamlike dance anthology. The concept behind the remix EP was to capture other artist’s interpretation of the essence of Felicity (2019). By encouraging thoughtful collaboration and exchange between producers, Hologramme intended to forge new connections and slowly foster a community of like-minded musicians.
MARAUDA – FUTURE STOMP [MALIGNANT MUSIC]
MARAUDA’s pursuit of greatness started at the young age of 16 under his former alias Mastadon. The Australian based Hamish Prasad pka MARAUDA has risen through the ranks to firmly establish himself as a force to be reckoned with amongst the elite of the bass world. Embarking on yet another disastrous tear of music, MARAUDA is back with one of his hardest-hitting records yet. A festival-ready single suited for rail riding and headbanging, “Future Stomp” is MARAUDA at his best. Featuring a mirage of skull-shattering bass, the producer continues to showcase consistency at the highest level.
NURKO – BLINDSPOT FT. DEVON BALDWIN [PROXIMITY]
Nurko has had an enormously productive year, releasing +10 singles/remixes across 12 months, amassing millions of streams in the process. Taking on the likes of ILLENIUM, Gryffin, Seven Lions and more on the remix front, Jack Leech has seen unprecedented success amid an otherwise bleak trip around the sun. ‘Blindspot’ sees Nurko work alongside Devon Baldwin, a prolific singer-songwriter, best known for her multiple collaborations with Platinum-selling artists G-Eazy and blackbear. A change of pace from Baldwin’s typical productions, Nurko shifts ‘Blindspot’ into an entirely new sonic space, trading melancholic notes for uplifting chord arrangements and synth stabs. Reflecting on past relationships, lyrically the single paints a tumultuous picture of weaknesses colliding with substances and raw, unfiltered emotion.
ALIGN – WHEN I’M WITH YOU FT. MARTINA LYNN [LOWLY PALACE]
After debuting his “Second Thoughts” and “Reflections” earlier this year on esteemed electronic tastemaker label Lowly Palace, ALIGN returns for one more single ahead of years end. A captivating display of the best parts of commercial pop and dance music, “When I’m With You” is ALIGN at his genre-blending best. Sonically fusing ambient textures with rhythmic chord progressions, ALIGN weaves an emotional tale through upbeat soundscapes. Enlisting Martina Lynn on vocals, “When I’m With You” finds itself as an atypical love song.
FELIX JAEHN & CHEAT CODES – I JUST WANNA FT. BOW ANDERSON [UNIVERSAL]
Felix Jaehn returns to the release radar with the latest single to come from the established German talent since his late August-released LGBTQIA+ anthem ‘No Therapy’. The lively track’s propelling energy is maintained throughout its entirety, perfectly complemented by an infectiously rhythmic four-on-the-floor pattern. The richly sonorous, textured singing from Cheat Codes adds to the track’s overall sprightly tone, in turn producing a wholly upbeat romp that’s audibly rife with both a powerful edge and raw emotion. A pop dance track from start to finish, ‘I Just Wanna’ maintains a house music feel, with a warm groove perpetuated throughout.
BELLA THORNE – SFB
Actress, singer, and social media megastar Bella Thorne flaunts her brimming confidence and carless nature in the newly-released video counterpart to her latest single, “Stupid F*cking B*tch” (SFB for short). Directed by Thorne herself, the 2-minute music video tells the tale of a clout-chasing friend who tries to steal her famous friend’s thunder. Exceeding over a million views on YouTube only a week after its release, the video is definitely one to talk about.
