Netflix Premiere “Remastered: Who Killed Jam Master Jay?”

Last week Knock attended the exclusive private screening of Netflix’s latest docu-series Remastered at iPic Theatre presented by LiveXLive

Netflix’s first installment of Remastered delves into the question “Who Killed Jam Master Jay?” Directed by Brian Oakes and narrated by Rahman Dukes, “Remastered: Who Killed Jam Master Jay?” paints a portrait of the life and friends of Jason William Mizell, better known as Jam Master Jay, Run DMC’s iconic DJ. Family, friends, and peers come together to help retell the events that led up to and transpired during Jam Master Jay’s murder. While the documentary leaves some questions unanswered it enlightens us on the more widespread issue at hand. After learning all the facts the viewer is sure to sit there and say there is no reason they should not have been able to catch the shooter. Even with all the necessary resources and witnesses, the NYPD were not able to convict a suspect because of the fear and divide between the urban community and law enforcement. Although Jam Master Jay’s murder happened over 20 years ago, that fear and divide are just as relevant in today’s political climate.

A handful of tastemakers and writers attended the private screening of “Remastered: Who Killed Jam Master Jay?” During the screening, viewers were given complimentary popcorn in addition to one of iPic’s signature creations. Post-screening Brian and Rahman answered questions from the crowd regarding the documentary. While the mystery remains unsolved, we are at least a step closer to highlighting and drawing awareness to the overarching issue at hand.
