The indoor section was a showcase for the designers that made their mark in both the hip hop and art scenes. From Cey Adams beginnings in illegal graffiti art in New York, to Miami’s own Derick G who’s origins in the car community led to him documenting behind-the-scenes moments of some of the biggest names in music like Lil Wayne, Drake and Pitbull. This section also put a spotlight on graffiti artists from around the country along with their contributions in the sneakers game including special collaborations with Jordan, Adidas and Vans you wouldn’t have scene in store shelves.

We go outside and it’s your standard Miami Art Basel party, in the best way. From music to drinks big names making an appearance in former NBA All-Star John Wall with rappers like Trinidad James and Westside Gunn in attendance as well. In the spirit of art and creativity, Champion presented attendees the opportunity to design their own brand’s shirts from scratch while Modelo had a new line of flavored drinks on display. The event capped off with Hip Hop icon Fat Joe taking the stage to really the crowd through even more of a trip down memory rinsing his own classics like ‘What’s Luv’, ‘Lean Back’ and ‘All The Way up.’

The Hip Hop scene wouldn’t be what it is today without the visionaries that helped the musicians live out their ideas. Some of the most iconic album covers and live performances don’t happen without the photographers and designers behind them, and that contribution was on full display at the Museum of Graffiti’s grand opening, along with a lineup of sneakers to go with them. A real showcase of the ART of Hip Hop.
