Miami Art Week 2018 was one of the best in recent memory. American Express Platinum took the weekend to new heights as it soared with splendid entertainment at 1 Hotel South Beach.

Platinum House was open exclusively for Platinum Card Members from Thursday, December 6th to Saturday, December 8th. The fantastic experience included splendid food and beverage, morning fitness classes by Equinox, and a live drawing performance and installation by Sougwen Chung curated by Platinum Collective Member Julia Kaganskiy.

In addition, the Little Cabana lounge and programming by Platinum Collective Member Audrey Gelman of The Wing was a place for tastemakers and art lovers alike to gather. On Friday 12/7, Writer and curator Kimberly Drew hosted “Miami Art Mavens: A Conversation,” a discussion about the importance and influence of women in Miami’s creative scene.

Equinox classes included fantastic yoga sessions facing the ocean and Barre Burn sessions to detox after long Miami nights of parties. Tyler Haney, founder of Outdoor Voices, will gift attendees of the Equinox workout classes with a curated gift bag of Outdoor Voices gear.

Card Members also enjoyed a special performance on the beach with Pharrell Williams. DJ duo, WATCH THE DUCK, played the opening set. Pharrell performed under the iridescent lights of the Platinum House stage, and proceeds from ticket sales directly benefitted Young Audiences Arts for Learning.

The pop icon expressed in a statement, “As the Creative Director of American Express Platinum, I am excited to be in Miami – my second home – performing for Card Members and celebrating Art Week here at Platinum House. There is no better time or place for us come together again in support of the arts. As we did with Yellow Ball in September, proceeds from this special concert will again benefit the incredible organization, Young Audiences Arts for Learning.”

Notable attendees: Venus Williams, Jonboy, Joan Smalls, DJ Ruckus, Ally Hilfiger, Hannah Bronfman, Flaviana Matata, Tash Oakley

Expanding its footprint beyond Platinum House, this year American Express Platinum brought late-night food trucks by Global Dining Collection Chef José Andrés to the Wynwood and Design Districts.

Certainly, it was the place to be seen and be on the scene in the art world.
