This past Saturday, Bushwick was the host of Members Campout’s first warehouse party and boy was it great!
New York City, as we know, offers us with such a variety of events, venues, and people. Each area of the city caters to different kinds of people, different tastes. As a Manhattan resident, I did not know much about Brooklyn nightlife. I had heard about it, had friends who went every weekend, but never exactly knew what it entailed. After going to Berlin and living the Berlin nightlife to its fullest, I became a little saddened, thinking I wouldn’t be able to find such amazing venues with those incredible techno tunes here in NY.
I experienced my first warehouse party in Brooklyn this past summer, and ever since I have been digging deeper and deeper into the underground techno world that resides in Brooklyn. This world is very different than the nightlife of Manhattan, especially Meatpacking clubs where one has to dress up, and most music played is what’s hot on the radio.
The location of the warehouse was kept private until the day of the event. Tickets ranged from 30-45$. One could tell it was not about the quantity of people for them, but about the quality. It was made very clear that Members Campout works very hard to create an atmosphere of respect and community, something that is really the key for one to enjoy the music to its fullest.
Doors opened at about 11:30 pm. As I entered I was really excited. Staff was really amicable and the decorations were incredible!
The bar was made out of wood, the DJ booth appeared to be made out of rocks, there was a tent with a very comfortable circular sofa where people could come together and get to know each other, and a tower where people could stand and overlook the venue.
The attendees arrived very sporadically and never in groups, which filled up the venue little by little. When the clock hit 4 however, the venue was full.
All the DJs playing were not only talented but very friendly as well. They kept interacting with the crowd, making sure everyone was having a good time. DJs Nikita, Ray Zuniga, Ryan Crosson and the one and only DJ Three delighted the crowd with amazing beats. The Berlin based duo Mind Against was first scheduled to play, unfortunately due to a family emergency they were not able to attend. Although this complication did upset some who had bought tickets (since Mind Against was the main act), Members Campout did not want to disappoint its members and the new line-up they brought, including legend DJ Three was top-notch. The night ended at about 7 AM as we left very satisfied from this experience!
If you are looking to spend a night celebrating the beauty of techno alongside music lovers like you, and meet cool people while you’re at it, then you’ll like what Members Campout has to offer. The night might’ve had some complications but the way they were able to handle things with such a personal touch is something that really stood out and something that is not often seen.
I am definitely looking forward for what these guys have to offer next and so should you!
