Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson, Jacki Weaver, and Teresa Ruiz are starring in the film Father Stu which will be premiering in theaters on April 13th.

The film is based on the life of Stuart Long and follows his journey to the priesthood. Wahlberg embodies Long’s character as he progresses through multiple life-changing events and circumstances. The movie offers an authentic and in-depth view of Long and his journey to forgiveness and redemption. He navigated through life and suffered from self-destructive behaviors and actions to find his purpose in life. He remained dedicated to his vocation when many around him were skeptical due to his past and progressive illness. The movie takes on conversations about forgiveness and second chances through adversity and maintaining one’s faith through religion. The film incorporates moments of humor and sarcasm while also preserving the story’s serious nature.

Wahlberg, Weaver, and Ruiz spoke with our correspondent Rebecca Eugene about the importance of this film and what viewers can expect to see. Wahlberg described losing his mom and filming during the pandemic as a “unique experience.” Each of them expressed how important it was to embody their characters and ensure their passion and the authenticity of the story translated well on-screen.
