Mai Pham Talks Growing Up On YouTube, Asian Visibility, New Music & More | Create + Conversate

In this week’s episode of Create + Conversate, a show where we take a closer look at the successes of popular social media creators, we sat down with Mai Pham, or as she’s better known online – Mai Phammy. Mai chatted with our host, Katherine Tinsley to talk all things YouTube and her huge successes and accomplishments throughout her career online.

At only 18-years-old with 2.2M+ followers and 130M+ views, Mai is one of today’s most popular lifestyle, beauty and travel content creators, and this year, she’s take it to the next level with her street style clothing line and first pop single coming out this summer. “I’ve been working on this song for probably three months now…It’s something I really relate to personally and feel like my supporters could as well,” shared Pham.

Mai Pham has essentially grown up online and is now a “big sister figure” to her fans as older YouTube creators once were for her. “I feel like I’ve created a family online and it’s more than being a creator and influencer in general,” she shared.

In light of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Mai shared how important uplifting Asian American voices is to her and the importance of representation for her. Pham revealed she is a first-generation Asian American who grew up not seeing herself represented when she was younger, and stressed the importance of normalizing her experiences.

“I tried to create a platform where people that look like me can come on and feel comfortable and not feel ashamed of their culture.”
