Mac Miller Ties Up With Migos on ‘Jabroni’

Mac Miller’s 2015 has been unique.

Returning from a hiatus that was starting to feel very Jay Electronica-esque, Mac dropped GO:OD AM. An album which he claimed was the ninth attempt to create a project during his break. I was never a huge Mac fan but I ended up loving GO:OD AM so when I saw that he was coming together with Migos on this Alan the Chemist joint, I was shamefully curious.

I should throw in a disclaimer that I’m still unable to grasp Migos’s appeal. Their projects just feel like another stop along the recycling line for the “New Atlanta” style. I guess they’re fun, but personally I get more enjoyment out of replaying “Space Age Pimpin'” than I ever will from a Migos record.

That aside, I think Alan The Chemist did a pretty exceptional job in bringing together Mac and Migos. One of my more constant critiques of Migos is the lack of coherence in the vocals, which Alan clears up pretty well. “Jabroni” is overall an enjoyable track but it’s still falls in line with the predictable sound found in club-type music. I’d rate it as average but it’s definitely worth a listen or being thrown on a party playlist.
