Last Friday, Lauv performed at Terminal 5, showcasing songs from his upcoming album ‘How I’m Feeling’.
After revealing in an Instagram post about dealing with depression, his music has shown a much more introspective turn. He talks about his journey with overcoming self doubt and emptiness, and even provided support at the end of the 5 page long post on his website .
His upcoming album, ~how i’m feeling~, will show six different personalities, each of which will be expressed in his songs. Some of his songs, such as “fuck, I’m lonely,” have already dropped, giving us an insight some of of his personalities, specifically “hopeless romantic” Lauv here.
Lauv shows a wider range of emotions in his latest songs, including “Sad Forever,” which aims to drop stigmatization surrounding mental illness. He appears to aim for opening a dialogue about mental illness as well as how to deal with it through his songs and music.
Lauv opened the concert with, “Drugs and the Internet”, a song about how drugs and the internet caused a loss of friends for the 25 year old. The song clearly resonated well with the crowd as it had the entire crowd bouncing once it started.
His songs in between kept the audience going for the 90 minutes he was on stage, using the screen behind him to enhance the concert experience by keeping them fun and relevant to the music.
Finally at the end of the concert, he wrapped up with his first hit, “The Other,” released in 2015, and re-released in 2018 on his compilation album I met you when I was 18. “The Other,” written during his time at NYU, seemed like the perfect ending to his concert, ending with a song that started it all.
In the midst of it all, Lauv dedicated $1 from every ticket told on his tour to go to proceeds supporting mental health organizations such as in North America, UK’s and Australia/New Zealand’s , and more.
~how i’m feeling~is expected to drop March 2020. Singles such as Drugs and the Internet, have been dropped already and can be streamed on Spotify or Apple Music.
