Landmark Building Opens As New Hotel With Extensive Art Collection

A classic Manhattan crowd composed of models, bloggers, elegant women and impeccable men, celebrated the opening of the new HGU New York in the Nomad district on Wednesday July 27th.

While guests sipped Peroni beers and sparkling Celange rose, some were discussing the historic past of the hotel. The building was built in 1905 and it used to be known as the Hotel Grand Union for almost a hundred years before it was proclaimed a landmark in 2013.

According to the HGU Remixed Times Dispatch, the hotel’s very own newspaper, this building was right in the middle of all the excitement in the late 1800s. The “it” people of the time such as Oscar Wilde, Nikola Tesla, JP Morgan and the Roosevelt all used to gather around this area.

Now, after a year of cautious and detailed renovations, the new hotel is ready to honor its landmark status by merging the old and the new flawlessly.

One way they managed to do so was by incorporating new artwork to the original indoor structure. The artwork around the hotel is all one of a kind. “We wanted to keep the charm and elegance of an older hotel, but we want to marry that with modern amenities that travelers are looking for,” said Dana Ayers the sales and marketing director of the hotel.

When guests look in their room, they will find mini ipads available for the entire length of their stay. This is one of the initiatives taken to appeal to the young traveler. They will also attract a trendy crowd with their back room lounge and private rooftop with spectacular city views.

The hotel is carefully decorated with a curated selection of artwork and trinkets that somehow harmoniously fits perfectly together. It has a small bar with large furniture and trendy ceiling lamp, an elongated restaurant salon, and a unisex restroom.

Even though the restroom was not the most decorated room in the hotel, everyone was talking about it, and enjoying the flirtatious exchanges going on in the waiting line.
