KnockturnaLIST: Top 10 Songs of 2015

As 2015 draws to a close we count down some the the top songs of the year from songs that made us dance to songs that touched our hearts here are our Top 10 choices:

10.”Watch Me”-Silento

One of biggest dance crazes of the year came about thanks to a seventeen year old from Atlanta. Silento made his debut combining popular dances “The Whip” and “The Nae Nae” to create a catchy dance hit called “Watch Me”. The teen’s debut single also gave him his first Billboard top 10 hit.

9. “Levels”- Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas took listeners to new heights with the first and only single from the reissue of his self-titled album with the electropop hit “Levels”. The success of the song took Nick straight to number one song on the dance chart.

8. “679”- Fetty Wap

Fetty Wap showed that he wasn’t just some fly by night one hit wonder with the successful release of “679”, the follow-up single to his debut song Trap Queen. The song which takes its title from Fetty’s date of birth delivered an infectious beat which was just right for the summer. The track also served as a springboard for Remy Boyz rappers Monty and P-Dice who are featured on the track. With the success of the track we can hopefully expect to hear more from them in 2016.

7. “Cheerleader”- Omi (Felix Jaehn Remix)

It was a slow race to the top that took Omi’s Cheerleader to the top. When Omi teamed with Felix Jaehn the collaboration seemed to be the golden touch that was needed to make the song a dance hit success.

6. “See You Again”- Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa scored the biggest hit of his career thus far this year with “See You Again” from the soundtrack to the action film Furious 7. The song became Wiz’s first number 1 record in his career and truly made him a crossover from just a hip hop artist showing that he could conquer the pop charts as well. Wiz may even take home not only a Grammy for the song but a Golden Globe as well in 2016.

5. “The Hills”- The Weeknd

After much success with the Fifty Shades of Grey hit “Earned It”, the Weeknd took a dark yet adventurous turn with the single “The Hills”. Exploring themes of secrecy, fame, and lust, and referencing the horror film “The Hills Have Eyes” in the hook the song delivered a mysterious yet interesting vibe and sound. The song became so popular that artist such as Nicki Minaj and Eminem quickly jumped on board for remixes.

4. “FourFiveSeconds”- Rihanna (featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney)

Rihanna took a totally different direction from the pop, dance and reggae infused hits that has made her a superstar with the purported lead single from her album Anti, the Kanye West produced track FourFiveSeconds. The track was minimalistic, and my many could be considered a country track with it’s simple guitar rift courtesy of the legendary Paul McCartney. The song really showcased Rihanna’s versatility as an artist both vocally and stylistically more so than any of her previous releases.

3. “Sorry”- Justin Bieber

Another artist who took a big step out this year and challenged themselves was Justin Bieber. Shedding the teen image for good, Bieber stepped out musically venturing into EDM with his hit “Sorry” creating a bridge between pop and EDM creating a smooth marketable sound to be enjoyed in and out the club. Bieber has also displayed a great deal of maturity in the delivery of vocals on the track.

2. “Hello”- Adele

2015 instantly became the year of Adele who made her grand musical return with Hello. Rather then rely on big elaborate production and synthesizers like many of her contemporaries; Adele simply used the layers and textures of her powerhouse voice. Going from slightly breathy to soul reaching emotion Hello makes a plea that will stick in the hearts and souls of listeners for years to come.

1.”Hotline Bling”- Drake

This list couldn’t be complete without Drake’s Hotline Bling. There’s no telling if whether it was the video with Drake’s interesting dance moves or the catchy hook which made the song popular but you definitely couldn’t go anywhere in 2015 without hearing this song blasting through the radio or through someone’s Beats headphones.
