On The Scene: Kith’s New York Fashion Week Debut

Bella Hadid, Teyana Taylor, Iman Shumpert, Rick Ross and Joey Bada$$ were among the many celebrities who attended Kith’s inaugural fashion week show “Kithland.”

With performances by Fabolous, The Lox, Mase, Ja Rule, and A$AP Rocky, the Kithland premiere could very easily have been a concert. Kith was founded by Ronnie Fieg in 2011 and quickly rose to prominence in the streetwear and footwear retail game. In 5 years Kith has become a New York hypebeast staple, curating some of the best sneakers, and apparel as well as their own line. Kith isn’t your typical fashion house or high-end couture brand and as one would expect the show was anything but predictable. The creative director of the amazing runway show was Nate Brown, known for his work on the Yeezy and Formation tours. Check out pictures of the show and aftershow below!

The Kithland presentation was beautiful and accommodated those with limited visibility of the stage. After hitting the stage the models walked the two floors of Samsung 837, turning the entire building into one big stage. The runway shows were intercut with short video clips and performances by Fab, The Lox and Mase. Following the show the models lined up on stage for a presentation of the collection and remained in presentation mode for 30 minutes before joining the afterparty held at the same venue. While there was a VIP area for the artists we listen to and celebrities we follow on Instagram, it was a lit concept to host and facilitate a fashion show/ afterparty where fashion goers, creatives, journalists and models all mingled while enjoying the “CAP’N Kith” cereal boxes courtesy of Kith Treats.

The pieces themselves were brilliant and the show featured male and female models. the 90 looks were split into 3 categories “Beach,” “City” and “Mountain,” lines created specifically for Kith’s upcoming stores in Miami and Aspen. The “Beach” collection lived up to its namesake and featured lighter jersey materials, shorts, bodysuits, joggers, sweatshirts a wide mostly mutedcolor palette, with many neutrals and pops of color my favorite pieces were the monochromatic salmon-colored looks. The “City” collection featured more pants and longer hems for male and female looks a lot more layering of denim and jersey. This collection also featured windbreakers and sweat suit combos. The color pallet featured darker hues such as purple, violet, reds and greens. As expected the “Mountain” collection had the thickest materials  such as down. wool, tweed and faux fur. This collection incorporated snowboots, snowsuits and skiwear with a darker pallet and pops of lighter pieces. The 90 looks featured pieces with collaborations from A Bathing Ape, Off-White, Iceberg, Aimé Leon Dore and childhood shows like Rugrats and Power Rangers. All in all the runway show, performances and after party made for one of NYFW’s waviest debuts.
