Exclusive: Kevin and Danielle Jonas Help Raise Awareness for Pet Adoptions

May is National Pet Month, so Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle have teamed up with Swiffer to raise awareness for pet adoption.

The two avid dog-lovers helped host an event Wednesday in Manhattan, where they played with adoptable dogs from Bideawee shelter, tested out Swiffer products, and hung out with social media star canine, Doug the Pug.

“We’re just excited to be a part of this,” said Kevin Jonas of the partnership with Swiffer.  “And of course it’s pet adoption month, pet awareness month so for us it’s a big deal to make sure everybody finds a home.”

The couple sat down with us to talk about their own experiences with pets, their favorite memories of their dogs, and some upcoming plans and projects.

The Knockturnal: So why is it important that potential pet owners adopt and don’t shop for a dog?

Kevin Jonas: I think it’s important, everybody needs a home, and you know there are so many dogs out there that are just as cute and just as exciting and they’re just waiting and they need and deserve love too. And for us any time we go to the farmers market or places around us, we see that adoption stuff and our daughters freak out. You know it’s a big decision, right? It’s a big responsibility, you have to make sure you’re prepared for it, but at the same time, it’ll bring you a lot more joy than the turmoil that a dog can bring to the household, or cat, or…bird.

The Knockturnal: How do Swiffer products make it easier for you guys to own a dog?

Danielle Jonas: I mean it’s easy cleanup. I always grew up with Swiffer, so I’m a fan of it.

Kevin Jonas: It just makes the most sense, because it’s disposable … there’s not clean up after you clean up, so that for us it’s like, we have two kids, so when you have two children plus two dogs, like there’s a mess in the house, so it’s definitely easier to get it, throw it away, get some more.

Danielle Jonas: Everything’s on the floor, so instead of bending down and then wiping it, you just grab the little end.

The Knockturnal: Yeah, you don’t have to touch it.

Kevin Jonas: Yeah, exactly.

The Knockturnal: What are some of your favorite pet stories, past or present with your dogs?

Kevin Jonas: We traveled with our first dog on an entire tour, she came with us. So she was on the road with her (Danielle) as a best buddy when we were touring, so it was really fun because every day we were in a new city and she would run around the city with Danielle and it was cool to see. And then after the show falling asleep on the bus and you have a dog on you, it felt like home.

Danielle Jonas: It’s like home. You brought home with you.

The Knockturnal: Any other pet stories?

Danielle Jonas: Seeing them with our kids. I didn’t grow up with a dog. I wanted one so we got one after crying for it —

Kevin Jonas: When she was a teenager, yeah.

Danielle Jonas: So seeing them grow up with the [kids], it’s interesting to see my second daughter, she loves animals, just loves them. It’s so soft and sweet. So it’s just a fun memory to have.

The Knockturnal: So this summer, will you guys be hanging out with the dogs or do you have any fun summer plans?

Kevin Jonas: They’re gonna come with us everywhere, we always go on vacation in the end of August for two weeks and they come with us so we’re gonna go to the beach, kinda hang out, so it’ll be nice. So summer beach days with the dogs, go down to the boardwalk.

The Knockturnal: Do you guys take your dogs everywhere?

Kevin Jonas: We take them a lot of places, yeah. When we travel we usually take them with us. We live in Jersey so when we came here today, we didn’t have to bring them because there were gonna be enough dogs for us to play with. But we do travel with our dogs a lot.

The Knockturnal: Are you working on any fun interesting projects right now? Can we expect anything new from you?

Kevin Jonas: Yeah, so yeah, working on a bunch of stuff, something called Pop Culture Lab which is a new, live show that we’re doing, so we’ll see about that, it’s gonna be coming out soon. Other than that, really kind of just waiting to see what’s next.
