We caught up with New York’s own K$ACE to talk music, parties and best friends.
K$ACE pulls up, Chucky doll in hand, an accessory he’s been sporting a lot lately, before sitting down and filling me in on his latest projects. From music to nightlife to fashion, K$ACE is involved in a number of creative projects and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. Check out his latest single “Streetwalker” and learn more about the artist behind the music.
Can you talk to us about the doll you’re carrying?
This is my friend, my friend till the end, Chucky. It was passed down to me. I’ve had it for three months, and I guess we’ll share the same birthday, July 26th.
Is it hard to party while holding Chucky?
No, because sometimes people want to party with him so I’m hands free and when I’m partying with him we’re just like getting all the girls together so I’m not mad at it.
How’d you get the name K$ACE?
I got it in high school when I went to a Sweet 16 and I was wearing a Versace suit and like this kid was like we’re going to call you K$ace and then at school for the rest of the year everyone kept calling me K$ace.
You’re a part of New York’s party promoting and music scene, which do you prefer?
I like music and party throwing. It’s amazing to see how many kids will come out just because I posted a flyer.
What was the first party you ever threw?
My 18th birthday I snuck up onto a rooftop and brought my own DJ and mad extension cords.
How did YouTube discover your music before putting you on their billboards?
I shot for TeenVogue and the photographer liked my music and she worked with YouTube and she was telling me how she liked my video and said she wanted to shoot me for this big campaign for YouTube.
Did you grow up in a musical family?
Yeah, my dad would always play 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Prince, I was around all that stuff.
Who are some of your current influences?
My friends, I’m super influenced by the people I hang around.
Where do you see your music career going?
I think it’s about to take off because my new stuff is fire. I’ve got two upcoming singles
“Streetwalker” with IshDARR and Take A Daytrip. “Streetwalker” is about this prostitute that’s basically trying to pay for her school books.
I’ve got another single coming out with Take A Daytrip called “Speed Dating” and it’s about not taking girls on expensive dates and we go to spots that serve paper plates.
What’s the production process like? Do you create your own beats or bring on producers?
I usually just tweet “I need beats” and whatever kids from the internet want to send me beats, I’ll hit them if I like the beats. I feel like everyone deserves a shot and that’s my way of kind of giving back.
Can you talk about signing with Fool’s Gold Records?
I had a single deal with them for my single “Treadmill,” I love A-Trak and the whole Fools Gold family.
Who’s your favorite artist?
50 Cent.
Favorite party you’ve thrown this year?
Probably “No More Favors” at the Highline Ballroom. The cops actually shut down the Highline Ballroom.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I jumped from a balcony in Montreal and everyone lost their mind and thought I was gonna die, it was 15 feet up.
What’s your favorite movie?
My all-time favorite movie is Get Rich or Die Trying
Can you talk about your fit?
These are OG Dunks Rick Owens, got some G Star pants on, JD Studio hoodie, When Smoke Clears chain, When Smoke Clears ring, JD studios bag.
Do you want to do more with fashion?
Yeah I’m about to drop merch, T-shirts and have more merch on the way.
